Man was arrested after breaking into a jewelery store overnight in Port Colborne

Niagara police have arrested a man after he was seen breaking and entering into a jewelery store in Port Colborne.

Shortly after 1 am on Wednesday, police received an emergency call from a witness who was observing the break-in at a jewelery store located on West St. between Clarence and Charlotte streets.

Investigators say the suspect arrived in an older model green Dodge Caravan. He broke the front glass window of the store for entry.

The suspect fled the scene in the vehicle after stealing an undisclosed amount of property.

The suspect was arrested shortly after on 3rd Ave. near Killaly St. West, and all the stolen items were recovered and returned to the owner of the business.

Jamie Edward Leggett, 49, of Port Colborne is charged with break enter and commit place other than dwelling.

The police said he was released from custody on an undertaking.

Leggett is scheduled to attend the Welland Courthouse on June 23.
