Q: For those who aren’t familiar, what is Marina B?

A: Marina B is a High Jewelery brand founded by Marina Bulgari in 1978. Marina’s adventurous and ambitious spirit led her to leave her family’s famed Maison in 1976 in order to launch the brand. Determined and able to make her own name whilst honoring her family’s nurtured passion and talented heritage, Marina’s unique style became world-renowned for its boldness and timelessness. Marina B’s jewelry designs are a perfect blend of contemporary style and opulent luxury, characterized by bold shapes and vibrant gemstones. For me, it was a dream to be able to acquire and become creative director for Marina B.

As a young person, I always admired Marina B growing up. Her story is a true story of women’s empowerment, and her designs are unique and timeless. It was a true pleasure to be able to dive into the archives, study her work and I am fortunate enough to be able to visit Marina where she now resides in Rome when I am in Italy. It is a great honor to be able to honor her heritage and expand on the designs and collections for both existing and future collectors.

Q: What makes it unique?

A: There are several factors that make Marina B unique and set it apart from other brands. To start, Marina B’s jewelry designs are inspired by geometry and architecture, which give them a distinct and modern look. The bold, clean lines and geometric shapes used in the designs make the brand’s jewelry instantly recognizable. Marina B is also recognized for its commitment to craftsmanship and attention to detail, with each piece of jewelry being meticulously crafted by skilled artisans. The brand’s commitment to craftsmanship ensures that every piece is of the highest quality and will last for generations. I am very passionate about every stone that I purchase, and every piece I design. Marina named all of her unique one-of-a-kind pieces, and I carry that heritage on, because I feel that it is important to personalize every piece of jewelry I design.

Q: What can people expect from the Vancouver event?

A: I am so honored and excited to be back in Vancouver. To me, Vancouver is such a special place and I am so excited to share the celebration of Marina B being in Holt Renfrew Vancouver. You can expect a wide arrangement of our beautiful designs, both from our core collection, which highlights our signature Tubogas in collections such as Trisola and Trisolina, and one-of-a-kind High Jewelery pieces, focused around the beauty of color and Italian craftsmanship. I will also be there, in person, to meet, talk with, and have a great time viewing magnificent jewels.

Q: Will there be any rare/unique pieces to make the trip?

A: There will be quite a few rare and unique pieces coming to Vancouver. We will be showing our Triangoli collection, a breathtaking representation of Marina’s fascination with geometry and symmetry through the use of triangular-shaped diamonds. Our current Triangoli collection preserves Marina’s original style, while curating a High Jewelry collection that is perfect for modern times. In addition, our vintage re-edition pieces will also be showcased in honor of Marina B’s 45th anniversary. These pieces are inspired by Marina’s original designs and have been carefully curated to create a collection that is both nostalgic and timeless. We celebrate lots of unique gemstones, transformable designs, and beautiful designs, both past and present.

Q: What makes trunk shows of this kind such an important avenue of discovery for customers?

A: Trunks shows of this kind are an important avenue of discovery for multiple reasons. They offer access to unique, one-of-a-kind, or limited-edition designs that cannot be found online. This gives clients the opportunity to discover new and exciting pieces that they cannot find anywhere else, making their jewelry collections more distinctive and personal. At these shows, customers also have the opportunity to meet the designer face to face and learn first hand about the inspiration and creative process behind each piece, along with learning about the materials and techniques used to create them. Aside from designing, this is my favorite part of my job.

Q: And what makes Vancouver a special fit for the brand?

A: I do believe the clientele and audience that Vancouver will appreciate the thoughtfulness behind our jewelry. Both Marina and I share the same sentiment of creating beautiful pieces with unique gemstones and curate for both stunning design and wearability. I feel that the Vancouver client understands and appreciates this form of art, and I look forward to celebrating together the beginning of our partnership with Holt Renfrew.
